Though they look different, many genetics problems are also long standing problems in mathematics. Many of the solutions that have been developed for genetics problems have been quickly adapted to solve problems in other fields as well. It is even possible that more engineering problems have been solved by geneticists than genetics problems solved by engineers.
“Genetic algorithms” - an algorithm technique inspired by how organism populations evolve, is now used to solve many other problems, such as risk and threat assessment, scheduling problems, timetables, route planning, etc.
